Vimeo video metadata viewer
Paste the link of a public Vimeo video and we show you what Vimeo publishes about it: title, description, upload date, duration, thumbnail and the player URL to embed it. We read it through oEmbed, the open format Vimeo offers so other sites can show its videos, so no Vimeo key or account is needed.
No account, no card · YouTube · Vimeo · Dailymotion · WordPress · OpenGraph · nearly 70 players
What it shows
- Title and description, as the author wrote them.
- Upload date and time.
- Exact duration.
- The thumbnail, at the size Vimeo returns through oEmbed, with a link to open it.
- The official player URL (player.vimeo.com) and the iframe code ready to paste.
What it does not include
Vimeo does not publish tags, plays or likes through oEmbed, so we do not show them: an empty field beats a made-up number. That data only comes from the Vimeo API, which requires an account.
What it is for
- Add a Vimeo video to your site with title, description and cover image without copying by hand.
- Get the embed code without going through Vimeo's Share menu.
- Check the upload date and duration before quoting or linking a video.
- Collect the data of several videos, one link per line, and download it as JSON with a free account.
How to use it
- Copy the video link (vimeo.com/123456 or player.vimeo.com/video/123456).
- Paste it in the box above and press Extract.
- Copy the player URL or the iframe, open the thumbnail or download the entry.
If the video does not show up
On Vimeo each author decides where a video can be watched. If it is private, password-protected or the author does not allow embedding on other sites, Vimeo does not answer and the entry tells you so. It is not your mistake or ours: it is the video's settings.
Unlisted videos have a code after the number (vimeo.com/123456/abcdef). Paste the full link, code included: the player URL we give you carries it, and without it Vimeo will not play the video.
Lots of Vimeo videos?
Paste several links, one per line, and you get every entry at once. With the Basic plan you download them as CSV for a spreadsheet, and with Premium they go straight to your WordPress. Whole Vimeo channels and showcases are not walked automatically yet.
See plansFrequently asked questions
- Why are there no tags?
- Because Vimeo does not publish them through oEmbed, the public channel we use. If you need the tags of a YouTube video, those do come through, because the official YouTube API provides them.
- Do I need a Vimeo account?
- No: oEmbed is public and needs no key. Embedfinder does not need an account either for 2 videos per day; a free account gives you 5 per day.
- Does it download the Vimeo video?
- No. We read the public data and the official player URL. The video stays hosted on Vimeo and plays from there.
- How big is the thumbnail?
- The one Vimeo returns through oEmbed, which is usually smaller than the original image. The full-quality one is in the author's own account.
