Get the embed code of a Vimeo video
Paste the link of a Vimeo video and we give you its official player URL (player.vimeo.com) and the iframe code to paste on your site, full width at a 16:9 ratio. If the video is unlisted, the URL carries its private key (h=), the piece most often missing when a Vimeo embed does not play. We read it through oEmbed, Vimeo's public channel: no Vimeo account needed and no trip through the Share menu.
No account, no card · YouTube · Vimeo · Dailymotion · WordPress · OpenGraph · nearly 70 players
What you get
- The official player URL: player.vimeo.com/video/123456.
- The iframe code, with a copy button, full width and keeping a 16:9 ratio.
- For unlisted videos, the private key (?h=…) already in the URL.
- The video's title and thumbnail, to check it is the one you wanted.
What it cannot do
It does not bypass the owner's choices: if the video is private, password protected or only embeddable on certain domains, the code does not unlock it. It does not download the video either: it still plays from Vimeo.
What it is for
- Embed a Vimeo video on your site, a sales page or a course without opening Vimeo.
- Fix an embed that says the video is private because the unlisted key was missing.
- Get the code for several videos at once, one link per line.
- Hand whoever builds the site the exact code, with no screenshots of the Share menu.
How to use it
- Copy the video link as you see it in the browser; if it is unlisted, with the code at the end (vimeo.com/123456/abcdef).
- Paste it in the box above and press Extract.
- Tap Copy iframe and paste it into your page or a WordPress HTML block.
Player options and why an embed does not play
You can add options at the end of the player URL, after a ? (or after an & if it already has ?h=): autoplay=1&muted=1 to start on its own (browsers only allow autoplay without sound), loop=1 to repeat and dnt=1 so Vimeo does not set tracking cookies. To start at a given minute, add #t=1m30s at the end.
Other options, like hiding the controls (controls=0), only work on videos from paid Vimeo accounts, and whatever the owner set in their settings wins over what you put in the code.
If the player says the video is private or unavailable, there are three causes: it is unlisted and the h= key is missing, the owner limited which sites can embed it, or it really is private. This code fixes the first one; only the owner can change the other two on Vimeo.
<iframe src="https://player.vimeo.com/video/1084537" title="Big Buck Bunny" style="width:100%;aspect-ratio:16/9;border:0" allow="autoplay; fullscreen; picture-in-picture; encrypted-media" allowfullscreen loading="lazy"></iframe>Lots of Vimeo videos?
Paste several links, one per line, and you get one code per video. With the Basic plan you download them all as CSV, with the player URL on each row, and with Premium they go straight to your WordPress as drafts.
See plansFrequently asked questions
- Why does my Vimeo embed say the video is private?
- It is almost always an unlisted video embedded without its key: the URL has to be player.vimeo.com/video/123456?h=abc123. Paste the full video link, with the code at the end, and the iframe we give you already includes it.
- Do I need a Vimeo account?
- Not to get the code: oEmbed is public. On Embedfinder you can try without signing up, 5 videos per day, or with a free account, 10 per day and 300 per month.
- Does it look right on phones?
- Yes: the iframe takes 100% of the width and keeps the 16:9 ratio with aspect-ratio, so it shrinks on its own on small screens, without the old padding trick.
- Does it work for a whole channel or showcase?
- Not yet: today it gives the code for single videos. If you need several, paste the links one per line and you get one per video.
