YouTube description extractor and copier
In the YouTube phone app, selecting the description text is hard or simply not possible, and on a computer copying all of it, links and chapters included, is clumsy. Paste the link of a public video and we show you the full description, exactly as the channel wrote it, with a button to copy it in one go. We read it from the official YouTube API: you get the exact text, line breaks included.
No account, no card · YouTube · Vimeo · Dailymotion · WordPress · OpenGraph · nearly 70 players
What it shows
- The whole description, with line breaks, links and hashtags exactly as the channel wrote them.
- A “Copy description” button that puts it on your clipboard, on your phone too.
- The chapter timestamps (0:00, 1:23…), which live inside the description.
- The video's title and tags, with their own copy button.
- The video's publish date.
What it does not include
Only the video's description. Not a channel's own about text, nor comments, the pinned comment or subtitles. If the channel edited the description, you see the current version: YouTube does not publish earlier ones.
What it is for
- Copy the links a creator left in the description without typing them.
- Take the chapter list of a long video to use as an index.
- See how the top videos in your niche write their descriptions.
- Recover the description of one of your own videos to reuse it on another.
How to use it
- Copy the video link (watch?v=, youtu.be and shorts all work).
- Paste it in the box above and press Extract.
- Tap “Copy description” and paste it wherever you need it.
What is inside a YouTube description
YouTube allows up to 5,000 characters. The video page shows the first lines and hides the rest behind “more”; here you get it all at once. Links come out as the channel typed them, without the redirect YouTube adds on its own page.
Chapters are lines that start with a timestamp, like “0:00 Intro”. YouTube builds them only if the first one is 0:00 and there are at least three, each 10 seconds or longer. Paste the list into another video with the same times and the chapters build the same way.
Descriptions for a whole playlist?
With the Basic plan you paste a playlist or a channel and download a CSV with one row per video and the full description in a column, next to the title, tags and date.
See plansFrequently asked questions
- Why can't I copy the description in the YouTube app?
- Because the app often does not let you select that text. Copy the link with Share › Copy link, paste it here and use the “Copy description” button.
- Do I get the full description?
- Yes, all of it: up to 5,000 characters, the most YouTube lets a channel write, with the original line breaks.
- Does it work for a channel's description?
- No, only for each video's. If you paste a channel link, the Basic plan gives you the list of its videos, each with its description, but not the channel's about text.
- Is it free?
- Yes, no card: 5 videos per day without an account, or 10 per day and 300 per month with a free account.
