YouTube Shorts upload date and time
While you watch a Short, YouTube does not show when it was published, and where it does show it you only get the day, never the time. Paste the link of a public Short (youtube.com/shorts/…) and we give you the exact publish date and time, to the second and in UTC, as the official YouTube API stores it. To the API a Short is just another video, so the data is as precise as for any video.

What it shows
- The Short's publish date and time to the second, in UTC (the trailing Z), for example 2025-03-14T21:05:09Z.
- The exact duration: Shorts run up to 3 minutes, so it helps confirm it is the Short and not a clip of a longer video.
- The title, description and tags the channel added.
- The thumbnail YouTube publishes, with a link to open it full size.
- Paste several Shorts, one per line, and get each one's time to see which came out first.
Good to know
It is the publish date: if the Short was uploaded as private or scheduled, you see when it went public. YouTube does not publish when or where it was filmed, nor the country it was uploaded from: no external tool can see that.
What it is for
- Find out whether a viral Short is new or months old.
- Find who posted it first when the same Short shows up on several channels.
- See what time a channel in your niche posts by comparing several of its Shorts.
- Cite a Short with its exact date in an article or a report.
How to use it
- In the app, tap Share on the Short and choose Copy link.
- Paste it in the box above and press Extract.
- Read the date and time on the entry and convert it to your time zone.
Where YouTube puts a Short's date
In the app, tap the Short's three dots and choose Description: the date is there, but only the day, or a rounded “5 hours ago” if it is recent. On a computer, if you change /shorts/ to /watch?v= in the address, the Short opens as a regular video and the date shows below it, also without the time.
The exact time does not appear anywhere on YouTube: only the API returns it, and that is what we read. It comes in UTC so it does not depend on your time zone or the channel's; near midnight that changes the day: a Short published at 02:00 UTC went out the previous evening across most of the Americas.
| Where | What date you see |
|---|---|
| The Shorts player | None |
| Three dots › Description | The day, or “X hours ago” if recent |
| /watch?v= instead of /shorts/ | The day, below the video |
| Embedfinder | Day, hour, minute and second, in UTC |
Dates for every Short on a channel?
With the Basic plan you paste a channel link and download a CSV with one row per video and the exact date in a column. Shorts come mixed with long videos: the duration column helps you tell them apart.
See plansFrequently asked questions
- Can you see the time a YouTube Short was uploaded?
- Not on YouTube: the app and the website show the day at most. The exact time is in the official API, and that is what we show you here, to the second and in UTC.
- Why can't I see the date on a Short?
- Because the Shorts player does not put it on screen. It is under the three dots › Description, and only the day. The link is all you need to see the full time here.
- Does it work for any channel's Shorts?
- Yes, for any public Short, or an unlisted one if you have the link, yours or someone else's. Private and deleted Shorts cannot be read.
- Is it free?
- Yes. Each Short is one extraction: 5 per day without an account and, with a free account, 10 per day and up to 300 per month, no card.
